Boats can be a lot of fun, and that goes for used or new boats. Almost as long as man has been on earth, there have been people enjoying time on the water in boats. It is a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of life and de-stress. Whether cruising, sailing, fishing, or skiing is your thing, there is a boat for you. The only question is new or used.
New boats have the distinction of the latest technology and having everything in good working order. No rust spots, no dents or dings and the latest equipment and motors make the expense of purchasing a new boat well worth it. There are also often warranties or insurance that can be purchased for new boats that protect you, the consumer, against having to pay for damage repair in the case of an accident or something simply breaking.
Obviously, the benefit of purchasing a used boat is cost. Just like a car, once they have been “driven off the lot”, they are typically the less expensive option to purchase. Usually, they are a great selection for a money-conscious family. However, it is important to know the boat history to make sure that it has been properly maintained and won’t deteriorate quickly after you buy it and become a giant money sink.
Of course, if you don’t know which kind of boat to purchase, then you can always rent one. Go to your local marina and ask about boat renting options. Typically, a wide variety of new boats are available. If you are interested in eventually purchasing, renting for the day can give you the test drive that you are looking for. If you aren't sure about purchasing after all, renting can provide all the pleasures of boating without the burdens of paying for a slip and the upkeep of the boat.
